India has banned 59 Chinese apps including TickTock, UC Browser, WeChat!

The Indian government yesterday banned a total of 59 Chinese mobile apps for the sake of national security. This list of banned apps includes some most popular Chinese apps such as; TikTok, UC Browser, WeChat, ShareIt, etc.

Almost everyone knows that there is a clash between the Indian military and the Chinese forces at present. At least 20 Indian soldiers were killed and more than 75 wounded in the clashes. The New Delhi government of India claims that these 59 Chinese apps are stealing data of Indian users and smuggling it to China.

Indian officials believe that Indian users’ profiles are being created using the data, which is a risk to national security. So yesterday, the Indian Ministry of Information Technology banned 59 Chinese apps.

However, it is still unclear how the Indian government will process the ban, especially from a technical level. At the time of writing, the apps are still on the App Store and work perfectly within the country. It is not yet known whether the apps will be asked to be removed from the local Indian App Store or the domains of the apps will be blocked from the ISP level.

Technically, banning an app is a very difficult task. Russia has had a telegram ban for two years, but it was later unbanned. Although Telegram was banned from the ISP level, Telegram always came up with a method to bypass this ban. If an app is banned from the ISP level, it can be easily run using ordinary VPN software.
